1 Skirt, 6 Ways

In an earlier post, “9 Wardrobe Essentials”, I listed a pencil skirt as an important building block for a versatile closet. Thinking about 4 potential work-week events, and 2 weekend days, I wanted to show you all exactly how versatile a pencil skirt is!

The pencil skirt featured in all the outfits is one I recently purchased on super sale from The Loft.

Interview: For this look I went with a softer color palate and pulled my hair back so it wouldn’t be distracting in my face. I chose flats over heels because they are a bit more comfortable and you never know what the interview setting is going to be!

Business Presentation: There is no better time to pull out your power color than now and a blouse in a cut and color you feel confident in is the best way to command the attention you want at that important meeting. Pair with a blazer for a more formal event, and nude heels to rock that power stance!

Après Work Drinks: Bright heels and red lipstick are the perfect pairing to happy hour. It’s time to let your hair down! A small statement necklace can jazz up an otherwise simple outfit and that blazer from earlier in the week can take this look from day to night.

Casual Friday: This doesn’t always mean jeans are appropriate. A light sweater with a neutral and bright pattern dresses down a fitted skirt. Minimal jewelry and a comfortable bootie creates a more laid back look while still appearing professional and put together.

Sunday Brunch: A shirt in a muted slightly off-neutral color and a softer material is the perfect backdrop to play with jewelry and makeup. Sundays are usually a no-fuss kind of day so don’t try too hard. The goal is to look cute and comfortable!

Free Style: Spring in the city calls for days spent exploring, farmer’s markets, and food festivals. A plain white cotton t-shirt is a necessary basic! Throw on a brightly colored pair of canvas sneakers and a floral statement necklace, perfect for whatever the weekend throws your way!

As I mentioned before, a pencil skirt offers so much variety to your weekly outfits! In a neutral color or soft pattern it really is a great place to start building your wardrobe and thinking about outfits for all kinds of different events!

I would like to give a huge thank you to my friend, Galen Mooney, for helping me with this photoshoot. If you are in the Boston area and are interested in getting some photos taken please check out her website, mooneyphotos.com.

  1. I have long legs, no hips so I live in pencil skirt heaven! Thanks for the lovely tips since I also need to be more versatile with the look.
